An English language holiday is a combination of "holiday"
and "study abroad" to learn or improve your English. You can
find many language holidays in English-speaking countries.
While there, you study in a language school with students
from many different countries. You live with local people,
often staying with a host family. A language holiday can be
of any length - from one week to one year - but most are two
or three weeks.

Language holidays have a number of advantages, including:

- total immersion

Here are 7 countries that speak English as a first language
and where you can find many kinds of language holiday:

Practice Listening Online

Since English is a foreign language (not a second language) in our country, we are rarely provided with the chance to practice our listening and speaking skills outside the context of the language classroom. And we all know that in order to be able to speak a language very well, we first need to listen to it as much as we can. Thanks to www, we can somehow compensate for the non-English speaking environment we're living in. One of the best and most comprehensive websites I have ever visited so far for practicing listening skills is www.esl-lab.com. Here, you can have access to very well-designed listening tasks including pre-listening, listening and post-listening exercises as well as vocabulary activities. I strongly recommend you to give it a try. I’m pretty sure you’ll like it. By the way, you can also make good use of other sections on the website including listening quizzes for academic purposes, 20-minute ESL vocabulary lessons, language learning and life tips, etc.

Go for it and have fun! Remember! Learning a new language is not a picnic but it can be fun!

!Learn English and Help

Are you willing to kill two birds with one stone? Here's a good chance. Not only can you learn and practice English but also you can donate rice to the hungry people around the world! Surprised, huh? But that's true! In www.freerice.com you can answer English grammar/vocabulary questions and for each answer you get right you donate 10 grains of rice through the World Food Program to help end hunger. Whenever you get a question wrong, Freerice will repeat it a few turns later to give you a second chance at it. The rice is paid for by the sponsors whose names you see on the bottom of your screen when you enter a correct answer. These sponsors support both learning (free education for everyone) and reducing hunger (free rice for the hungry).
The first questions may seem too easy but don't be mistaken. Freerice automatically adjusts to your level. It starts by giving you questions of increasing difficulty and then, based on how you do, assigns you an approximate starting level.
There's much more to the website! So go for it and give it a try! Hope you like it!

Vocabulary

Now that I'm dead sure that many of you are eager to improve your vocabulary I've decided to introduce a useful website for learning even more words. Www.vocabulary.com is where you can learn new words in context and follow your progress. All you need to do is to create a profile and sign up. After you sign in, you'll be asked to answer a couple of questions. As the website claims, a model of your knowledge will be built and they will predict which words you don't know and teach them to you. As already mentioned, you can track your progress as you master the words that are essential to success in an academic or business environment. Hope you find it useful!

Rhyming Words

Are you interested in writing poetry in English and you're out of rhyming words? Stop beating your head against the wall!! :D Just google "rhyming words" and the WWW will provide you with hundreds of rhyming dictionaries. A rhyming dictionary is a specialist dictionary designed for use in writing poetry and lyrics. In a rhyming dictionary, words are categorized into certain classes that consist of words which rhyme with one anothero

My language exhchange

Finding a pen pal is a known way to improve one’s second language. Longman Advanced Dictionary defines ‘pen pal’ as “someone you make friends with by writing letters, especially someone in another country whom you have never met”. However nowadays, with the decline in the use of letters and the widespread use of emails, the term pen pal is being replaced with ‘e-pal’. Whatever the term, the benefits inherent in having a pen pal or an e-pal in order to improve one’s second language are generally acknowledged. Thanks to the power of the www, you can now find thousands of pen pals on the Internet, at no cost. One of the best websites where you can find a pen pal to write to is www.mylanguageexchange.com. The Wall Street Journal calls it “one of the best ways to learn a foreign language” and the PC World Magazine places it among the “101 top” websites! All you need to do is to sign up and describe your language exchange partner. This website in not completely free of charge, though. But don’t worry. There are still free ways to get in touch with others. I personally used this website about 10 years ago and in less than a month I found an American pen pal with whom I’ve been corresponding for the last ten years! The experience was greatly advantageous to me in that it helped me find more confidence in writing! I hope you find it useful, too!I
